Ford says it’s so important for our youth to remember what Dr. King did so they can keep in mind to always do the right thing even if it’s not the easy path. At the core of his beliefs was an unwavering dedication to helping everyone, because all people are created equal and worthy of a helping hand when needed.

Dr. King was assassinated in Memphis in 1968, his late wife and civil rights activists worked tirelessly to get a holiday established in his name.

The sold-out breakfast, hosted by Spectrum Generations and the Waterville Rotary Club, was attended by community leaders, including Gov. Paul LePage, a former Waterville mayor who did not speak publicly during the event. Civil rights leaders and public officials will participate in the march to commemorate the holiday.

Hundreds of thousands will flood San Antonio’s east side Monday for the 29th annual Martin Luther King Jr. This weekend’s events around Richmond provide opportunities to give back to the community, reflect on King’s legacy, and reopen a dialogue about how present day events relate to the Civil Rights Movement in King’s time.

The theme of freedom is especially meaningful this year, she said, because it is the 50th anniversary of her father’s trip to Chicago to highlight the need for open and fair housing.

U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro told the church audience about King’s trip to Chicago.

Stephens college honored Dr. King through the Celebration of Leadership. All National Park Service sites that charge an entrance fee will offer free admission to everyone. This year, Delta Air Lines donated $40,000 to secure the Georgia World Congress Center and to assist in paying for outstanding expenses related to MLK’s dinner. A grand jury declined to indict the officers involved in that shooting.
