Eagles expected to hire Doug Pederson as head coach, per report
Nope. It’s Doug Pederson. He wouldn’t be wrong about that.
Although the Chiefs’ offense totaled 331.2 yards per game, and the passing game averaged just 203.4, under Kelly this year, the Eagles averaged 364.4 yards a game and 255.4 through the air.
“He’s the man”, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said. I’m not saying you got to love or like him just give a chance, I certainly didn’t love or like Chip Kelly I hated him but I supported the team and gave Chip a chance and he blew that with the stupid moves.
Doug Pederson has the obvious connection through Andy Reid and his time in Philadelphia, but the Eagles won’t be able to touch him until after the season. This was the first time that Pederson was with current Chiefs head coach Andy Reid in their professional careers, starting what would be a good relationship in coaching.
Maybe the players will play differently for Pederson. If they don’t, that could signal that they’re going after a coach whose team is still in the playoffs.
I actually preferred Pederson to Coughlin, but it’s still embarrassing when a candidate does that, because it reflects poorly on the organization. His Chiefs will play the New England Patriots this Saturday in the AFC divisional round. The Eagles also interviewed Adam Gase last week before he took the Miami Dolphins’ head coaching job.
Reid had said this season that he has delegated more play-calling duties to Pederson. Never Know Right? Just Never Know! It felt more like speed dating. They will collaborate to make roster decisions with senior director of player personnel Tom Donahoe.
Second, an Eagles spokesperson said that the search was over. The Eagles even had an extra week to look at the candidate pool because they fired Kelly before Week 17.
And the way the Eagles’ search party arrived at Pederson made it seem like he was their third or fourth choice, with McAdoo and Tom Coughlin certainly ahead of him and probably Gase, too. “Unfortunately, he’s got a head coach who’s an offensive guy, so he doesn’t get enough credit for what he does, but I have full trust to turn the whole game over to him and let him call”.
Pederson learned under Reid for all seven years he has been a coach in the National Football League, and four of those years were in Philly.
Unless you were a fan of Calvary Baptist Academy in 2008 you have no idea how Pederson manages a game, or the clock.
There was, however, nobody who would’ve delivered sizzle in this year’s crop of available coaches. The following year with Cleveland, he went 1-7 as a starter. Which means that their next head coach can’t now be named, because his team is still playing.
If Pederson and Eagles have come to a vocal agreement, Philadelphia needs to trust his word and wait for the season to pan out.
He returned to the WLAF in 1995 with the Rhein Fire and eventually caught on with the Green Bay Packers, where he backed up Brett Favre from 1995-1998. Reid wanted Pederson to work with McNabb, helping the rookie to understand the offense from a quarterback’s perspective. I don’t exactly know.
