The Charlotte Hornets Are Set to Take on the Golden State Warriors
Stephen Curry seemingly aggravated his shin injury after making a layup midway through the quarter, but came back in the game after receiving treatment on the bench.
Curry stayed in the game after knocking legs with Roy Hibbert in the third quarter, leaving the star guard with obvious frustration on his face.
“It’s just frustrating and annoying and any other adjective you want to throw in there”, Curry said, per Diamond Leung of the San Jose Mercury News. “Long-term, it’s not something that I’ll have to worry about”.
He had 13 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists to join Tom Gola in 1959-60 as the only Warriors players ever to get triple-doubles in three straight games. “We’ll keep addressing it and keep treating it, I’ll keep playing, and hopefully, over time, I’ll get through it”.
With all that, Scott had to pit his Lakers against the defending champion Golden State Warriors sans Bryant (sore right shoulder) and Russell (sore throat) on Tuesday at Staples Center.
As for Curry, who appeared unlikely to play earlier in the day, the reigning MVP hit 12 of 21 shots and scored 30 points in front of his dad, Dell, a broadcaster for the Hornets. The word is that Curry would have to sit out about four weeks in order to let the injury fully heal, according to Rusty Simmons of the Sac Francisco Chronicle.
The game was over in the first quarter when the high octane offense of the Warriors scored 30 points, while they only allowed the Lakers to score 11.
Point guard Kemba Walker and backup guard Jeremy Lamb had 22 points apiece for the Hornets, who were playing without starting centre Al Jefferson (knee injury) and shooting guard Nicolas Batum (toe).
“I’ll keep treating it and keep playing”, Curry said. But Thompson countered immediately with 16- and 28-footers, the latter a 3-pointer, to trigger an 18-4 burst that put the Warriors in command for good.
Not many of Thompson’s quarters can measure up to his 37-point outburst last season.
Curry finished Tuesday night’s game with 17 points in 26 minutes.
Williams took an inbounds pass from Devin Harris with 2.3 seconds left, pump faked to get Rudy Gay to fly by him in the left corner and the ball went in after the buzzer sounded.
“We were very pleased on the offensive end, but not so much on the defensive end”, said Walton, whose club shot 51.7 percent overall.
He was 9 for 14 from the field, including 4 for 7 from 3-point range.
He scored 12 points in first quarter and had 20 points by halftime.
The Warriors continue their great season as the 33-2 record is still the best in the Western Conference and in the National Basketball Association.
In the win against the Charlotte Hornets Monday night, Draymond Green had his stamp all over the place.
