Philadelphia Eagles hire Doug Pederson as new coach
The news comes three weeks after the Eagles fired former head coach Chip Kelly after three seasons at the helm. However, Reid did clarify the near future concerning Doug Pederson’s exit to the Philadelphia Eagles.
PHILADELPHIA The Eagles have hired Doug Pederson to be their head coach.
Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie told their official website: “We are excited to introduce Doug Pederson as our new head coach”.
“The things I’ve learned from Coach Reid, wherever, if it’s in my future to become a head coach, then there’s a lot of great examples of him leading a team and an organization that I can use in my future as well”.
Pederson was considered the favorite ever since former Giants coach Tom Coughlin withdrew his name from consideration.
After the injury to Charles, the Chiefs’ offense was able to play very well led by Alex Smith and his offensive coordinator Doug Pederson. They carried Shula off the field for the first time since winning the Super Bowl to complete their 1972 ideal season. Smith has thrown for 3,000 or more yards in three straight seasons for the Chiefs.
The next addition to the Eagles’ coaching staff is likely to be a midstate local.
Like Pederson, Reich was mainly a backup in his National Football League career. Pederson produced a 2-7 record as a starter and was released at the end of the 1999 season. When asked whether or not Pederson would take some staff members to the Eagles, where numerous current Chiefs coaches originally came together, Reid said, “I don’t think so”. Normally, what you want to do is start and take your own guys and go build a program. He backed up quarterbacks Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Donovan McNabb and Jim McMahon. Kelly was 10-6 in each of his first two seasons and won a division title in 2013 before going 6-9 this season.
