Wildcats Fall to Iowa State
Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield leads the conference, averaging 26 points per game, while Iowa State’s Georges Niang averages 19.6 per contest.
The Cyclones (13-4, 2-3), ranked 17th in the most recent Associated Press poll, snapped a two-game losing skid on Saturday with a 76-63 victory at Kansas State. The No. 1 spot has not been kind to college teams the last couple of weeks, with former No. 1s Michigan State and Kansas falling in successive weeks.
Iowa State students are braving below zero weather to get in line for Monday’s game against the Oklahoma Sooners.
Oklahoma’s Isaiah Cousins hit a three-pointer with 41 seconds left to tie the game 75-75.
Percentages: FG.509, FT.778. 3-Point Goals: 6-16, .375 (Nader 2-2, Morris 1-2, Ashton 1-3, Thomas 1-3, Niang 1-4, Burton 0-2).
On Iowa State game plan….
Iowa State lost at Texas on Tuesday night, 94-91 in overtime.
The Wildcats would attempt another push but were unsuccessful as the Iowa State lead stayed at seven point or more until the final buzzer sounded with K-State trailing by 13. Now the betting odds for the game have the Cyclones favored to pick up the win over the top-ranked Sooners.
A year ago, Oklahoma held a 21-point lead early in the second half at Ames, only to witness a phenomenal Cyclone comeback that resulted in a “Hilton magical” 77-70 victory. Guard Justin Edwards led Kansas State with 19 points. Edwards made a total of 11 points during the game against S. Utah.
After scoring in double figures in the last four games, Brown finished with four points on 1-of-10 shooting.
Iowa State almost beat Oklahoma on the road in the Big 12 opener earlier this month.
Edwards had seven rebounds to go with 19 points, while Iwundu had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Iowa State opened up a 15-0 run led by five points from Jordan Ashton, who received extended minutes because of a one-game suspension for Cyclones guard Hallice Cooke.
The rematch with the Cyclones will mark the fifth time the Sooners have faced a top-25-ranked team this season.
Notre Dame 95, No. 9 Duke 91: Bonzie Colson had a career-high 31 points and added 11 rebounds for host Notre Dame (12-5, 3-2 ACC), which won its second straight and defeated the Blue Devils (14-2, 3-2) for the fourth time in five tries.
A renewed, energetic Cyclones team handled business on Saturday, and then did so again, protecting their epic home court advantage with a trademark offensive performance good enough to dislodge one of the nation’s best defenses and perhaps the game’s most gifted scorer in Hield.
