Mortal Kombat X is getting (Hopefully!) better netcode
The new multiplayer system is meant to provide online players with an experience that provides less of a feeling of lag and better imitates the feel of an offline match. It’s based on a “roll back, simulate forward” model rather than the older dynamic input latency model.
After taking player feedback into account, NetherRealm Studios is attempting to improve Mortal Kombat X’s online play, which will begin by allowing fans to sign up for an enhanced online beta on January 19.
The game is still great but more improvements are coming to the increasingly popular online play. However, the first wave of invites will be sent to selected players only and more players will be added over time, Lazy Gamer.
As announced through the official Mortal Kombat YouTube page, there will be a closed beta held early next week to test newly implemented netcode that they are hoping will fix the game. We don’t yet know which platforms they’re targeting for the beta or how long it will last, but we assume we’ll have that info soon enough.
The new characters include the Xenomorph from Aliens, with some truly gruesome attacks, as well as Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and more traditional fans will be able to play using Tri-Borg, who is a combination of other robot characters featured in the franchise, as well as the drunken king-fu master Bo Rai Cho.
The new and improved online system comes as Mortal Kombat X prepares for several major tournaments later this year.
Right now, only four characters are expected to be made available for the beta, with those being Jacqui Briggs, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero. Developers want the online play issues to be solved by then.
