The dead were identified as 21-year-old Kelsey Annese, of Webster, New York; 24-year-old Matthew Hutchinson, of Vancouver, British Columbia; and 24-year-old Colin Kingston, of Geneseo.
The Buffalo News reported that the 911 call that led authorities to the house at around 6 a.m. Sunday was made by a man who said his son had told him that he had just killed his girlfriend and was going to kill himself.
GENESEO, N.Y. (WIVB)- The Geneseo Police Department is investigating three deaths in a SUNY Geneseo student’s home Sunday morning. Family and friends said the two had dated about three years. “We certainly don’t know what his intentions were when he entered that room”. She was majoring in psychology and in education/Spanish.
Hutchinson and Annese were seniors at SUNY Geneseo.
Monday, banners hung from the fire station and a Canadian flag was flying in his memory.
“We think our students will be comforted by keeping as much stability in their lives as possible, even during this hard period of mourning”, she said.
The murders of the current SUNY Geneseo students took place in the early hours of Sunday morning at Annese’s house as she and Hutchinson slept in the bedroom.
News of these deaths sent shockwaves through Geneseo.
Before playing for the Geneseo Knights, Hutchinson played 130 games in the B.C. Hockey League, with the Surrey Eagles, Quesnel Millionaires, Coquitlam Express and Chilliwack Chiefs.
Annese and Hutchinson were students at SUNY Geneseo and were both members of the school’s athletics program. Hutchinson played hockey for the college.
A university hockey player from B.C. died at the hands of a man distraught after the recent breakup of his relationship with a woman who played basketball at the same university in NY state, police said Monday. Annese, a guard, played 13 minutes and scored five points in her team’s 63-52 victory. That’s how coach says the team will remember her.
“I can say that Matt was really in the upper echelon of our department”, said Geneseo Fire Chief Andrew Chandler. “I just feel so, so sad for them”. “Between a third and half of our volunteer membership are full time SUNY students, so Matt had quite a connection to those folks, but had also developed some pretty strong relationships with our full time community member volunteers”.
Szczesniak said Kingston had “made some suicidal comments to several people, but there was no actual threats to harm Ms. Annese or anybody else”.
