San Antonio goes to 24-0 at home, smashes Dallas
The San Antonio Spurs look to put on another dominant home performance when they host the Dallas Mavericks tonight at 7PM ET.
“It’s just easier having guys that can make plays, guys that can have big nights”, Aldridge said. Even though reigning league MVP Stephen Curry didn’t play for the Dubs in that loss, I’ll simply point out that he missed the following game the very next night and the Warriors beat the Rockets in Houston. The Spurs are winners of 10 straight overall and have seen an offensive resurgence from Tony Parker, who averaged 27.5 points in the last two games.
The Dallas Mavericks’ game plan against the Boston Celtics, at least in the early going, was clear.
The Spurs did have some bad news, losing Parker late in the third quarter to right hip soreness.
San Antonio is a franchise-best 24-0 at home and has won 33 straight at the AT&T Center dating to March 2015.
The Spurs enter this game with a record of 35-6, a mark that any other year would probably place San Antonio atop the entire Western Conference. “We’ve got guys who are looking for him”, Stevens told reporters. “Obviously, he’s a tough cover, so both of them deserve a lot of credit”. Now they take on the hottest team in the National Basketball Association, and their most hated rival, division rival San Antonio. On his first scoring possession against the Mavericks’ small ball, Parker passed to Aldridge in the right low block and then Parker dashed to the corner to pull his defender (Matthews) out of the play.
A frustrated Carlisle was ejected from the game with 11:17 to play in the fourth quarter after coming far onto the court and gesturing at one of the officials.
Russell Westbrook had his second consecutive triple-double to help the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Miami Heat 99-74 on Sunday.
Westbrook scored 13 points with 15 assists and 10 rebounds to back up Kevin Durant’s 24-point, 10-rebound night. It was his fifth triple-double of the season and the 24th of his career.
Isaiah Thomas (20 points, seven assists) led the Celtics, Avery Bradley scored 19, Olynyk had 17, Sullinger finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Jae Crowder added 12 points and seven boards.
The Spurs (36-6) already have a 13-game lead in the Southwest Division over the second-place Mavericks (23-19) and Memphis Grizzlies (23-19).
Karl-Anthony Towns had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Timberwolves. Brandon Knight scored 20 points on 9-for-20 shooting, and Markieff Morris had 17 points and five rebounds for free-falling Phoenix. Dwight Howard had 14 points and 15 rebounds for his ninth straight double-double. In November Dallas knocked off the Los Angeles Clippers at home to avenge last summer’s free agency drama with center DeAndre Jordan.
Dallas hit its first four 3-pointers to open overtime. By that time, the Spurs were leading by 23 points.
