Teacher arrested after 3 children found inside trunk
A teacher has been arrested for allegedly having children in the trunk of her vehicle in La Vergne.
A bystander called the police on James, reporting that she had children in her trunk.
Police received the report Sunday evening from someone at the Speedway gas station on Murfreesboro Road.
According to police, three small children were found in the trunk, while six others were found in the vehicle.
La Vergne police confirmed to WKRN that James told them she is a teacher, but it is unclear what school system she works for.
James has been a part-time tutor at an elementary school in Metro Nashville Public Schools since September, according to the Daily News Journal.
A parent told WTVF that the trip was part of a reward to the children for good behavior.
Parents of the children were called to come get their kids, and James was taken into custody.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department did not respond to requests for comment Monday.
“Obviously, the acts she is accused of are completely inappropriate for an educator entrusted with caring for students, and we will take further disciplinary action if needed as more details come to light”, the district said in a statement.
She told officers the children were playing and ended up in the trunk when they stopped for pizza.
Jail records showed James was released after posting $1,000 bond the morning after her arrest. She will appear in General Sessions Court March 9th at 8am.
