Diego Costa suffered a bruised tibia against Everton
Chelsea could be set to push through a deal to sign Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato after Diego Costa suffered a bruised tibia during the 3-3 draw with Everton.
The Spanish global was sent for scans following the full time whistle, and the Press Association Sport believe that there is no fracture to his shin, just heavy bruising.
“Let’s wait on the report”.
But it is too soon to say whether Costa, who was injured when challenging Leighton Baines in the second half, will be able to feature in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Arsenal. “If the negative [happens], then yes, we start thinking in a very quick way”, Hiddink said.
Costa scored the first goal for Chelsea as they fought back to grab a point at home against Everton and has scored five in his last five appearances, hitting form under Guus Hiddink.
The 27-year-old was at Cobham on Sunday, getting treatment for his injury while the rest of the squad had two days off.
Any medium or long term absence of Costa would see Loic Remy as Chelsea’s sole recognised centre forward, but the club have seemingly been loathe to field the Frenchman in the lone striker role of late and have even utilised Eden Hazard as a makeshift front-man.
Persistent problems to Radamel Falcao’s thigh have led to rumours the club are considering making a move for attacking reinforcements this January, with the latest news about Costa possibly forcing their hand.
The Blues are 14th with 16 games to go and well adrift of Champions League qualification.
