Ted Cruz: Donald Trump is no Ronald Reagan
Cruz, who is an extreme opponent of LGBT rights, lashed out at Trump by releasing a clip of Trump on Meet the Press in 1999 – when he signalled he had no issue with gay people serving in the military. With the combination of Trump’s very small lead in Iowa and Cruz’s attacks on his home state, Trump chose to finally break from his good standing relationship with the Texas Senator, showing that primary season truly is the more vicious part of the presidential election cycle.
Trump suggested that the loans underscored that the senator is controlled by the banks.
Any pretense at civility vaporized during last Thursday night’s sixth GOP presidential debate, when Cruz berated Trump for raising the “birther issue” only after he had begun to slip in the polls.
Cruz’s trademark anti-establishment pitch, filled with quotes from scripture and support from evangelical leaders, has thus far served him well among conservatives in Iowa, where he’s locked in a narrow race with Trump ahead of the February 1 caucus. Rick Santorum told a SC crowd they should think carefully before voting for GOP frontrunner Donald Trump. You can’t make deals like that, and it’s not a good thing.
“We are very much running a national campaign”, Cruz said. He’s got bank loans from Goldman Sachs. “Trump gets away with his mistakes”, Limbaugh said.
I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who have been let down by the liberal politicians in that state….I apologize to all of the pro-life, pro-marriage, and pro-2nd Amendment New Yorkers who are told by Gov. Cuomo that they have no place in New York because that’s not who New Yorkers are.
Following Trump saying in December that Cruz is a “maniac” who is not well liked in Washington, Limbaugh labeled Trump’s words a “huge mistake”.
During his speech, the Republican adopted a surprising attitude, unthinkable a week ago, mocking Donald Trump and presenting his SC supporters the outline of what is likely to be his argument until the polls on February 20.
Santorum and Cruz are courting some of the same voters in Iowa.
Donald Trump responded that he believed Cruz is in good standing.
Cruz did not mention Trump to the Tea Party event but talking to reporters in Fort Mill, S.C., earlier in the day he was unsparing.
During the interview, Cruz stated, “I think in terms of a commander in chief, we ought to have someone who isn’t springing out of bed to tweet in a frantic response to the latest polls, I think the American people is looking for a commander in chief who is stable and steady and a calm hand to keep this country safe”. But Trump couldn’t help but attack Cruz when it became clear that Cruz had a solid ground game in Iowa. In New York people don’t say “hi” to their neighbors.
Cruz questioned whether Trump is a true conservative, noting donations he’s made to Democrats over the years, including $50,000 in 2010 to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the former chief of staff to President Barack Obama.
“It’s disgusting for anyone to attack New York City for their own political gain”, he said on the John Catsimatidis AM 970 radio show.
