A look at some of Glenn Frey’s top songs with the Eagles
The band released some of the most popular songs of the 1970s: “Take It Easy“, written by Frey and Jackson Browne, is irresistible with Frey singing lead and the band’s harmonies intact, and “Hotel California“, the moody soft rock track, is a classic. The band had an infamously frosty relationship until, well, hell froze over and they started periodic (and cynically named) reunion tours, which most recently brought the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers to Dallas early in 2014.
Celebrities and fans around the world are mourning the death of founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, Glenn Frey, who has died at 67 years old.
Takamine Guitars manufactures a Glenn Frey signature acoustic-electric guitar, the EF360GF. “He was like a brother to me; we were family, and like most families, there was some dysfunction”, the drummer and vocalist wrote.
Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.
Frey was born in Detroit and was raised in the suburbs. “He was the spark plug, the man with the plan”.
The band, however, called it quits in 1980 in dramatic fashion at a political fundraiser as threats were exchanged between band members during their performance, which was explored in the 2013 documentary, “History of the Eagles”.
– “Hotel California”: Frey wrote the lyrics to what is probably the best known Eagles song.
Henley said crossing paths with Frey in 1970 “changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet”.
Many have since paid tribute to Frey on social media.
Martin went online to recall Frey as a friend from the early days, adding, “We loved you”.
“The band’s ‘Their Greatest Hits: 1971-1975′ remains one of the best- selling albums of all time, a testament to the enduring music that Glenn played a significant role in creating”, Portnow said.
Frey had success as a solo artist, with songs including “The One You Love” and “You Belong to the City”, and careers in movies and television. “But the bond we forged 45 years ago was never broken”.
“We were two young men who made the pilgrimage to Los Angeles with the same dream”, he said, “to make our mark in the music industry”.
