Trump calls Ted Cruz ‘a nasty guy’
Trump also bashed Cruz over the loans and other issues in a series of tweets, saying the Canadian-born rival would be sued over his eligibility for the presidency.
The website Politico, meanwhile, reported that the Cruz campaign was preparing new attacks against Trump. “I mean, if it’s something you did last year or the year before, then I’m thinking, ‘Well, maybe you’re conveniently changing your mind for the purposes of running for office'”. The New York Daily News has had for two days mocked Cruz on the front-page, with today’s “Slime Doesn’t Pay, Ted” for Cruz fund-raising from New Yorkers while insulting them, following Friday’s vintage “Drop Dead, Ted” which featured the Statue of Liberty making an obscene gesture and included a sub-headline “Go back to Canada”.
“Ronald Reagan did not spend the first 60 years of his life supporting Democratic politicians, advocating for big government politics, supporting things like the TARP big bank bailouts, supporting things like expanding Obamacare to turn it into socialized medicine”, Cruz said. “If they haven’t been willing to stand and lead, you can know to an absolute fact they wouldn’t do so as president either”.
“Look, the truth is, he’s a nasty guy”, Trump said on ABC’s “This Week”. “Whatever you want. And he’s a very nice guy”, he said at the South Carolina Tea Party Convention.
Trump has become a figure of controversy throughout the campaign for his various immigration proposals, which have included deportation of all illegal immigrants, an end to birthright citizenship and a call to bar all Muslims from entering the United States after last month’s San Bernardino terror attack.
“If I’m elected president, American sailors will never be on their knees to a foreign country”, he said. Cruz has picked up momentum in Iowa, where he is leading or even with Trump in the polls.
Trump seized on a report in The New York Times that said Cruz had failed to disclose a second loan, from Citibank, that helped bankroll his 2012 Senate campaign.
Then Trump slammed Cruz on not disclosing a Goldman Sachs loan, writing, “Ted Cruz said he “didn’t know” that he was a Canadian Citizen”.
On the campaign trail in New Hampshire this week, Cruz has stressed that he “likes” Trump, while also raising questions about his resume, temperament and conservative credentials.
Brown’s gatherings with presidential candidates are generally held in Brown’s backyard, or in the barn of a friend nearby, but they moved Trump’s event to a Toyota dealership due to weather and the larger expected crowd.
“For whatever reason, Donald doesn’t react well when he’s going down in the polls”, Cruz said Saturday.
He then tweeted a photo of the ruins of the World Trade Center after the September 11 2001 terrorist attacks there, with the words: “Is this the NY that Ted Cruz is talking about & demeaning?” The Republican front-runner, who was either unaware of Levin’s criticism or disregarded it, continued his Cruz attacks after Levin published his post. “The numbers right now aren’t lying and we don’t have a lot of time left”, one voter said. Campaign officials say they have felt no direct pressure from party leaders to drop out before the first two contests. “And I don’t think to divide people against each other”, Mr. Rubio said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press”.
