Senator Patrick Brazeau hospitalized
Suspended Sen. Patrick Brazeau was injured in an incident at his rural Outaouais, Quebec home Monday evening, and rumours in the community say the injuries may be serious.
Quebec provincial police officers were called to a private home in Mayo, Que., shortly after 10 p.m. on Monday to assist ambulance services, Sûreté du Québec information officer Marc Tessier told the Toronto Star on Tuesday morning.
Brazeau’s lawyer, Christian Deslauriers, confirmed to CTV News that his client is in hospital. In October of 2013, an individual was taken to hospital from Brazeau’s residence in Gatineau, Que., in medical distress.
He is in critical but stable condition, but his injuries are not life threatening, the statement added.
He faces a criminal trial for fraud and breach of trust arising from his Senate expenses.
Brazeau is on a leave of absence with pay, though his salary is being clawed back to repay almost $50,000 in disallowed housing expense claims. Deslauriers said he did not know what condition Brazeau was in at the time.
Brazeau was granted unconditional discharge after pleading guilty to assault and cocaine charges previous year.
Senator Patrick Brazeau is escorted out the Parliament Buildings after he was suspended by from duties by the Senate in Ottawa Tuesday February 12, 2013.
