Kaiser Permanente Physicians to Provide Sideline Care as Special Olympics
More than 100 Special Olympics athletes and trainers who stayed at Pomona and Claremont McKenna colleges in preparation for the World Games, which begins this weekend, were treated to a farewell pep rally Friday morning.
“A reminder of the universality of sport, this is an opportunity for athletes with disability to compete in one of humankind’s greatest traditions”, it added.
James, 22, from East Morton, Haworth man Chris, 31, and Bradford athlete Helen Burton, 45, all from Bradford Disability Sports and Leisure (BDSL), will take part in the opening ceremony on Saturday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, site of the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games.
Celebrating the special games, Google’s doodle team lead Ryan Germick illustrated and animated today’s doodle inspired by the circle of inclusion, which represents the acceptance of all people with intellectual disabilities.
Claremont was a Special Olympics World Games host town from Tuesday to Friday.
Triathlon, which will be the kick-off event of the Games on Sunday, July 26th, will make its world debut at the 2015 Special Olympics World Games, after having made its national debut at the Special Olympics USA Games last year, here in New Jersey. The first winter version of the games took pace in Steamboat Springs, Colorado during February in 1977.
