London Games Festival launched by a blocky Boris Johnson
Building on 2014’s introduction of video games tax relief, Games London will also launch global trade missions to promote the United Kingdom as a fertile ground for development around the world.
This April a new games festival will be held in London aptly named the ‘ London Games Festival ‘ that is reportedly costing an investment of £1.2 million and is being held to promote London as a location for major game events worldwide and offer and event similar to that of E3 and others.
The London Games Festival will encompass numerous events across the city, including this year’s EGX Rezzed event, the Bafta Video Game Awards and the three-day Now Play This event at Somerset House.
Boris Johnson even got downloaded into MineCraft to make the announcement.
London’s video game and interactive entertainment industry is about to receive a £1.2 million ($1.69 million) boost following the launch of Games London, a new program created to turn the city into “the games capital of the world”.
A blocky Boris, standing before Minecrafted London landmarks, also unveiled that the first London Games Festival will take place 1-10 April 2016.

Games have certainly been maturing as a medium over the years, and it’ll be interesting to see the the United Kingdom gaming industry develop with greater access to cultural and financial growth. The Creative Industries in the United Kingdom are world class, and the United Kingdom games industry is a key component of this winning sector.
