9 schools in New Jersey receive bomb and mass shooting threats
Police in nine North Jersey towns received bomb threats overnight, disrupting the school day for thousands of local students but police have reassured anxious parents that their children are safe.
Officers responded to Clifton High School, “where a coordinated effort between law enforcement and the school district was immediately initiated”, police said.
Threats were received at schools in Clifton, Bergenfield, Leonia, Tenafly, Teaneck, Garfield, Fair Lawn, Hackensack and Englewood. Students there are sheltering in place, Leonia Police Chief Thomas Rowe said. Some of the schools reported receiving the threat via voicemail.
“There continues to be no credibility to these threats at this time, however, precautions are still being taken throughout the district in response to the situation”.
According to state police in DE, three schools in the state have been evacuated, including Long Neck Elementary School in Millsboro, Woodbridge High School in Greenwood and Silverlake Elementary School in Middletown. “We’re taking every possible step just to make sure”. At least one of the messages also included a mass shooting threat. Parents were seen lining up at Teaneck High School to pick up their children after the threats.
