Jimmy Fallon pays tribute to David Bowie
Following news of his death, critics poured over the lyrics from his swansong album Blackstar, released on his 69th birthday last Friday, looking for clues as to whether Bowie realised the end was near.
Cyndi Lauper, who is set to perform at David’s memorial concert in NY in March, tweeted to Iman: “I’m so sorry for your loss. Xx”.
David Bowie thought he had more time and was planning to make another album after Blackstar, his producer has revealed.
And those wishing to pay homage to the Brixton-born music legend can customise their online profile pictures with a multi-coloured lightning symbol, popularised by the singer on one of his most famous album covers.
He said: “I have known for about a year”. His death was no different from his life – a work of Art. He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift.
He said Bowie’s album was inspired by Lubbock’s Norman Odam.
Bowie died Sunday at the age of 69 following a yearlong battle with liver cancer.
“Not only was David a passionate supporter of my career but more importantly a very special person in my life”. “Great artist, one-of-a-kind singer/songwriter, fashion icon, mad genius who also had one of the greatest senses of humor of anyone I’ve ever met”. “It was immediately clear it was very serious”, says van Hove, who kept his promise and didn’t disclose the information to anyone else before Bowie’s death.
“Over the last few years – with him living in NY and me in London – our connection was by email”.
Bowie battled cancer for 18 months and learned in November that his illness was terminal. So ahead of his time… “He was really weak and when we came off stage he had to take a seat”.
“He’ll be incredibly missed, but what a thing to have given those songs to the world”.
