Ted Cruz Attacks Donald Trump for ‘Spending Time on Twitter’
“You know why? He wants to look like Robin Hood that he’s the one protecting the people from the banks while he’s actually borrowing money and personally guaranteeing it and not disclosing it, which is illegal”, Donald Trump told Stephanopoulos during the interview. “Not a good thing to do if you want to curry favor and get the positive votes later on own”, Trump said at the John Wayne Birthplace Museum. You can’t make deals with people like that and it’s not a good thing.
Trump said that Cruz “fought like hell” in order for Roberts to be Supreme Court chief justice, which Trump believes was a disaster.
On Monday evening, The New York Times reported that Cruz launched his first attack on Trump unprompted at a campaign event. “In New York, people don’t say ‘Hi” to their neighbors, they say, ‘Hello, Newman”.
Cruz, who suddenly has started criticizing Trump after seven months of refusing to do so, essentially offered SC voters a roadmap to vet him. In that 1999 spot, Mr. Trump ascribed his pro-choice views and support for gays serving in the military, in part, to having lived all his life in NY. “What we just saw today was an absolute demonstration that not only what he told every Republican senator, but what he told the press over and over and over again, was a simple lie”, Cruz said after McConnell blocked votes on amendments he wanted considered.
But at a campaign rally in Concord, the usually attack-happy Trump didn’t mention Cruz once, nor did he at an earlier rally Monday at Liberty University in Virginia.
Rep. Peter King, R-New York, an original cosponsor of the Zadroga Act in the House, said Trump “can speak for himself about what he has done since 9/11”, and called his recent comments “appropriate and necessary” after Cruz’s comments.
For most of the campaign season thus far, the two had an unusually friendly relationship for competitors seeking the Republican nomination.
In a sign of their increasing separation from the rest of the field, Trump and Cruz have spent the past week focused on tearing each other down, ending the de facto alliance they had maintained to this point in the race.
Cruz, on the third day of a tour through New Hampshire, has been comparing his candidacy to Ronald Reagan’s 1980 victory over President Jimmy Carter. I disagree with him.
“The fact of the matter is that Ted has shown a propensity throughout his career in the U.S. Senate to take one position in front of one audience and then change his position in front of another”, Rubio said. “I thought what he said was very, very sad”. In regards to their tight battle when it comes to the polls, Cruz stated that Trump is a bit “rattled” with the results most especially in some areas wherein Cruz would take the lead, “I guess as conservatives continue to unite behind our campaign as his poll numbers continue to go down, that seems to be – he’s a little testy”.
At a town hall meeting Monday night in Whitefield, New Hampshire, Cruz said voters need to question Trump’s credibility, saying he was “nowhere to be found” during the debate in Congress over whether to grant amnesty to immigrants living in the country illegally.
“Honoring a promise I made to the men and women who elected me is my first obligation”, he said.
But mispronouncing a book in the Bible won’t matter much to Evangelicals, said columnist Bud Kennedy of the Star-Telegram.
