NASCAR will bring playoff format to Xfinity, Camping World Truck series
The Xfinity and the Camping World Truck series will each move to the same playoff the Sprint Cup Series has used the past two years.
” France said that he is “very optimistic” NASCAR and its team owners will finalize a new Sprint Cup team ownership structure to be implemented this season”. A caution occurring before time expires resets the clock when the subsequent green flag is displayed and the first truck a lap down will be the beneficiary.
The caution clock will be utilized in each Truck Series event (except for Eldora Speedway). “Races of this nature are a staple of hometown tracks all over the country and one that drivers and fans love”.
A driver can no longer afford to go into a season finale satisfied to protect their spot in the point standings as Truck Series champion Erik Jones did a year ago at Homestead.
While fuel-mileage races – a way for a team without the best equipment that day to sneak a win – aren’t eliminated with a caution clock, the odds of them happening are severely diminished. When the clock reaches zero, the caution flag will be displayed. The grid for the feature will be determined not by those qualifying results, but by the finish order of the heats. Regular season winners inside the top 30 in points who have qualified for every race will automatically be in the Xfinity and Truck Chase. Previously, the race at Richmond was 250 laps.
“Fans, partners and the industry have embraced the new Chase format like nothing we’ve seen in the sport’s history”, NASCAR CEO Brian France said in a statement. It will feature eight drivers and two elimination rounds, with four drivers competing in the Championship 4 at Homestead.
– International Speedway Corp.is eyeing Phoenix and Richmond as the next two tracks in need of capital improvements. And while ratings for the 2015 Cup finale at Homestead were up (helped by a rain delay that pushed the end of the race into the window for National Football League pregame coverage), reports emerged before the end of the season that NASCAR was considering expanding the Chase. “I think it’s going to be really cool for the fans and everybody to watch, and be a unique thing that we can advertise for our sport”.
