Trump wins endorsement of John Wayne’s daughter
Here’s another example of how show business is intersecting with and in some cases consuming politics: Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has been endorsed by the daughter of the late movie actor John Wayne, and the event is being widely covered by the media as a serious campaign development.
Aissa Wayne, with frontrunner Trump at her side, told a gathering at the John Wayne Birthplace Museum in Iowa that the United States needed a strong leader like her father – hero of legendary Westerns including “Stagecoach” and “True Grit” – as the next commander in chief.
“And I’ll tell you what: If John Wayne were around, he’d be standing right here instead of me”.
The two tough-talkers have a few things in common, and even Wayne’s daughter might have trouble guessing which man said what.
This was to be Trump’s first event in Iowa, one of the battleground states where he is in close competition with Ted Cruz.
Trump’s national political director Michael Glassner previously worked with Palin, who was a virtual newcomer to the national political arena when McCain named her as his running mate.
Palin will also be joining Trump at two events Wednesday, including a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A spokesman for the senator and presidential candidate said Monday the campaign would be “deeply disappointed” if Palin endorses Trump.
In September, Palin was appeared alongside Trump and Cruz at a Capitol Hill rally against the Obama administration’s Iran deal. “I think everyone is going to be very impressed, and nobody knows who it is, and that’s fine”.
“I think I have a great temperament – in fact, if you noticed, I’m the only one that didn’t want to go into Iraq”, Trump said.
The former Alaska governor, and former running mate of Sen. “She’s really a special person and I think people know that”. Several other Republican candidates will address the meeting. “When you talk about bigger than life, there aren’t too many people bigger than life”, Trump said.
