Self-Destructing Gmail Possible With Free Chrome Extension
Google unveiled its “undo send” feature in June giving Gmail users with email panic or regret up to 30 seconds to take back the offending message.
Dmail is a Google Chrome extension which, upon installing, will allow Gmail users to send self-destructing emails to recipients.
Dmail is for those times when you’re sending sensitive information meant for certain eyes only. They’re also working on premium features, one of which will be the ability to send self-destructing attachments in your emails… like blueprints of your nemesis’ secret volcano lair or the schematics of his latest insidious weapon.
You can now send self-destructing emails that can last anywhere from an hour to a week.
Hence a new service called Dmail has been created to make it easy to recall or delete any email that you may have sent via Gmail and wish you hadn’t. Even if you have selected the “never” option, you could delete the email at any time.
But, with Dmail, users can delete the sent emails anytime. If you need to revoke it at a later date, you can find the email in your sent folder and do so. Once the message self-destructs, recipients get a message that the email is no longer available when they try to read it.
The receiver can view this mail in Gmail, only if he had installed the chrome extension otherwise he might have to click on the option given below as “View Message” and it will be redirected to another web view, where they can read the mail.
Dmail only works with Gmail now, but it’s likely to expand to work with other services soon, with plans to release both an iOS and Android version this fall.
If the sender doesn’t cancel during their email grace period, the message will be sent to the recipient as soon as the delay expires.
