More than 2000 pigs killed in latest Ontario barn fire
First horses, then goats and cows, now pigs.
The President of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture says cold weather may have been a factor in the recent string of barn fires.
The fire broke out at a barn in the 800 block of Parkhill Drive in North Middlesex at around 3 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.
Fire crews from Grand Bend, Northville, Ailsa Craig, and Thedford were reportedly called in to help battle the blaze.
The Fire Marshall’s office has been notified. “It was a big barn with livestock inside, and approximately two-thousand pigs are deceased.” said Middlsex County OPP Constable Liz Melvin.
The investigation into the cause of this fire continues, but it is not considered suspicious.
Fire has destroyed a barn in North Middlesex.
On January 4, flames erupted at a horse barn at Classy Lanes Stables in Puslich, killing 43 animals.
Around 500 goats and more than two dozen cattle died after fire broke out on a farm in DE outside of London in the early morning hours of January 17.
