Clean Up Underway After Deadly Bay Area Tornadoes
Manatee County Sheriff’s officials told the WeatherUnderground website that two people were killed and four children were taken to hospital after one home was destroyed.
The Tampa Bay area is in for a frigid start to the week, but more storms and thunderstorms are on the horizon Friday. It was reopened at 12:30 p.m. “It was a very quickly moving system”.
Meteorologist Tyler Fleming said confirmed tornadoes, one in Siesta Key/Sarasota and one in Manatee County, struck overnight, with two confirmed fatalities in Manatee County.
Sarasota County said damage-assessment teams were deployed and urged locals to stay home.
Tornado damage was reported in Siesta Key and Duette early on Sunday morning between 3-4 a.m. EST.
At least four tornadoes touched down. Power outages sprung up across Pinellas. The company tweeted that power to majority of the customers will be restored by Monday. According to the NWS report, the survey crew found a single-wide trailer rolled over with debris blown to the northeast.
Historical data suggests there is a 60 percent increase in the number of tornadoes that hit Florida from this type of weather phenomenon.
And more could come over the next two months.
‘Through February and March we are still expecting the threat of more tornadoes, ‘ Fleming said. Plants should also be brought indoors or covered.
“High temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will be held to the 60s throughout central and South Florida”, Pydynowski said.
“I’m amazed to see anybody got out of this alive”, Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube has been widely quoted as saying, regarding the destroyed home.
