US want more pressure on China to help on NKorea sanctions

Pyongyang scattered more than 1 million copies of anti-South Korea leaflets through air balloons in part of Seoul and some of the northern region close to the inter-Korean border. While avoiding direct military confrontation that could easily escalate into a hot war both the North and South resumed psychological war games and tactical maneuvers to demonstrate military readiness and resolve.

In October 2014, North Korea shot at balloons carrying anti-Pyongyang leaflets, and it has threatened artillery attacks against activists flying such materials over the border.

A new government-sponsored survey found an increasing number of South Koreans view North Korea as an enemy.

Seoul’s Defense Ministry said Monday the North’s military has been sending the balloons on a near-daily basis.

Analysts in the United States, South Korea and Japan, however, have remained skeptical of the North’s claims of an H-bomb test.

The latest survey commissioned by South Korea’s Unification Ministry showed the number of South Koreans who hold negative views of the neighboring communist country has been growing over the past 10 years.

North Korea previously conducted three nuclear tests: in 2006, in 2009 and in 2013.

The No. 2 US diplomat urged China on Wednesday to “show leadership” on the North Korean nuclear issue, saying Beijing has more leverage over Pyongyang than any other country.

The Korean Peninsula remains technically at war because the 1950-53 conflict ended in an armistice, not a peace treaty.

“We must make sure North Korea clearly recognizes what consequences its wrong behavior will bring”, Park said.
