Rams fans sue team, alleging owner lied
The St. Louis Rams have had their relocation papers approved during the owner’s meeting Tuesday, Jan. 12 in Houston, Texas.
In his application to move the Rams, Kroenke misrepresented St. Louis’s economic status when he wrote that the city “lags and will continue to lag far behind in the economic drivers that are necessary for sustained success of an National Football League franchise”, according to the complaint.
CBS affiliate KMOV in St. Louis reported that even a three-year-old has given her take on Kroenke. I think there are certain rivalries and certain traditions that are important in this game. If they decide not to move to Los Angeles by January 16, 2017 then the Raiders have the option to move to the Inglewood Stadium with the Rams. Faulconer said he believes the city can put into motion the convention center expansion and a plan for a new Chargers stadium in 2016, two major infrastructure projects the city has talked about tackling for years. Rams employees spent Wednesday learning about the months of work ahead, and spokesman Artis Twyman said the team hasn’t made any logistical decisions yet about the move.
“For something for 3 years to be able to celebrate while we get the Inglewood stadium done”. Goldsmith reiterated the city is unwilling to go down the same wishy-washy negotiating path they experienced this year with the Chargers and would only explore options downtown if the team indicates they will stay in San Diego.
Based in the Los Angeles area from 1946-94, the Rams will play in a temporary facility, such as the Los Angeles Coliseum until the new stadium is ready for the 2019 season. And why were the Raiders, who wanted to partner with their long-time rival Chargers on a Carson, California project, basically ignored? The Raiders and Rams both left Los Angeles after the 1994 season. “We’re going to do very well without NFL football in St. Louis”. But Raiders officials requested that fee be waived after losing out on the Los Angeles proposal. The Broncos, Raiders, Chargers and Chiefs were original members of the American Football League’s West Division in 1960 (the Chiefs were the Dallas Texans from 1960-62 before owner Lamar Hunt moved his franchise to Kansas City). “We just don’t have to do it today”, said Schaaf.
“Relocation is always a tough thing, especially for the fans in the involved communities”. Or rather, St. Louis isn’t quite done with Stan Kroenke.
Sports consultant Marc Ganis downplayed the other teams’ influence, and he emphasized that San Antonio and Dallas are “two different markets”.
Meanwhile, the city and county of St. Louis will still pay at least $6 million apiece per year until 2021 to pay off bonds sold to construct and maintain the Edward Jones Dome, which opened in 1995.
