Twitter outage gets the day off to a rough start

Unlike rival social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram, Twitter has struggled to achieve significant organic growth in its base, which now numbers some 320 million monthly active users, compared to Facebook’s more than 1.5 billion monthly active users.

“The intermittent issue affecting some users between 00:40 to 06:50 PST has now been resolved”.

The website DownDetector.com showed a spike in reports of Twitter outages, starting around 3 a.m. Tuesday. Representatives at Twitter couldn’t be immediately reached for further comment. As of 8 a.m., some organizations (and Twitter users themselves) said that service was being restored, though some were still reporting technical problems.

“We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution”, a company spokeswoman said.

Social network Twitter is offline for many users, with web visitors being greeted by an error page.

But because Twitter is an important news source, as well as a sounding board, for many people, the shutdowns were a significant disruption in the global conversation.

Users took to Facebook with the hashtag #TwitterDown to complain about the issues.

The study on the time that the problems were first faced and when they were fixed were both studied by the outage-monitoring service Down Detector. It is not known whether that problem is related to today’s outage. The service was disrupted on Friday for about 20 minutes.
