‘Ludicrous Mode’? Tesla adds power to already-fast Model S
Tesla has announced that its Model S will be getting a “Ludicrous Mode”.
What is most expected is how the Model X and Model 3 develop over the course of the next few weeks and months.
Even Jalopnik agreed and said that the Tesla Model X SUV’s estimated 0 to 60 mph-time of 3.3 seconds would put it “in the same territory as the mid-2000s Ford GT and the C6 [Chevrolet] Corvette ZR1”.
Musk revealed that none of Tesla’s old clients had complained about the acceleration or top speed, but the company wanted to achieve a new feat and encourage new buyers to try out their products, by successfully executing this major upgrade.
“Nobody was asking for Ludicrous Mode because it was too ludicrous”, says Musk. “It is just incredible fun”.
“Existing owners can also purchase the pack upgrade, but I wouldn’t recommend doing so unless your usage is on the edge of current range”, Musk said in his blog. And so, on Friday, Tesla announced an upgrade that will cut 0-to-60 time to a mere 2.8 seconds and give the Model S P85D a quarter-mile time of just 10.9 seconds.
Investors liked the announcements. The Palo Alto, California-based company on July 2 reported preliminary first-half deliveries of 21,552 cars, about 40 percent of the full-year target.
That kind of performance ability makes the Cayenne Turbo S and Mercedes GL63 AMG look a little slow. “That’s the upside at this point”. This also increases the range-topping Model S’ overall output from 691 to 762 hp.
Dolev has an optimistic view of the company and believes the stock will hit a $360 price target.
Model S 90D: the longest-range Model S ever produced, 90D travels up to 270 miles on a single charge.
Other analysts were more skeptical.
If you can shell out an additional $13,000, you can drive home the 762 BHP Model S, which is capable of disintegrating all competition within the price bracket!
Like Tesla, it takes its name from one of the pioneers in the field of electrical engineering, Michael Faraday.
“People have loved Insane mode”, Musk told reporters on a conference call, referring to the previous upgrade to the Model S. “It’s been extremely well-received. They need the Model X and the Model 3”.
The Model X is scheduled to start reaching buyers early in 2016, but when Ludicrous examples will be available is anyone’s guess.
