Days after her husband’s death, Celine Dion loses brother to cancer
MONTREAL | Two days after her husband and manager died of cancer, Canadian singer Celine Dion has lost a brother also to cancer, a family spokesman said Saturday. Daniel died this morning in Dion’s native Montreal, Us magazine reports.
Daniel is the eighth child of Therese and Adhemar Dion’s 13 children.
Dion’s husband, René Angélil, died on January 14 at age 73 after battling throat cancer.
Daniel Dion’s religious funeral will be held several days later at a church in the family’s hometown of Charlemagne. His death was confirmed on Saturday (Jan. 16, 2016) hours after it was revealed he was suffering from cancer of the throat, tongue, and brain. “It’s very painful. It’s a matter of days or hours”, she commented.
In 1999, her song My Heart Will Go On, from the soundtrack of the film Titanic, won two Grammy awards.
Daniel Dion’s funeral is said to take place later this month at St-Simon-et-Jude in Quebec, where the Dion children were raised.
“Our family is very experienced [with this type of cancer]”. Dion said he supported her later return to the stage.
The pair first met when Celine was just 12-years-old and began dating when she was 19 and he was 45. Funeral plans have not been announced for Angelil.
Celine’s husband passed away on Thursday after a years-long battle against cancer.
Dion’s performances this weekend at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace had been canceled following her husband’s death.
