Snow, Ice, Rain: Major winter storm tracking for Friday
Heavy rain expected overnight Thursday into Friday morning with occasional rain during the day Friday. We will be keeping a close watch on the thermometer in areas along and north of the Highway 278 corridor in the morning.
We’ve had some cold arctic air in place over the past 24 hours but we are seeing signs tonight that this colder air is retreating.
The National Weather Service says a winter weather advisory remains in effect in northeast Arkansas until noon Wednesday with up to two inches of snow and sleet and up to a tenth of an inch of freezing rain. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details. Snowfall accumulations will range from 6 to 12 inches in the high elevations of the mountains. We’re expecting for Friday’s winter weather to significantly impact driving and any outdoor activities you have planned. It may cause some travel issues early Wednesday morning but all areas will go above freezing by late morning. “Rainfall amounts could exceed 1” during that time period.
SUNDAY IN ALABAMA: The day will be sunny, and the afternoon will be warmer with a high in the low 50s. After the band of rain and storms moves east, temperatures will begin another big tumble with readings in the 40s by sunrise.
Freezing rain and sleet are moving through the area before 9 a.m. then as temperatures rise rain is likely.
