Carson, in a statement earlier today, said he was canceling events on his campaign tour to see Joplin’s family as they awaited news on his condition. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family”, Carson tweeted Tuesday evening, along with a picture of the volunteer. “I also hope that the people understand that where we are right now is very serious”, he said.

Others injured in the crash were: Laneanne Lane, 34, of Exira, Iowa, who was in the pickup, and Aaron Ohnemus, 18, a volunteer in the van, according to the report.
Several campaigns shared their sympathies for Joplin’s death.
Carson was in South Carolina Tuesday, where he had speaking engagements in Charleston and Mount Pleasant.
