Chance of freezing rain and snow this week in Cobb
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory Wednesday for five northern Alabama counties: Lauderdale, Limestone, Madison, Jackson and DeKalb.
There are some pockets where temperatures are at the freezing mark across northeast Alabama and especially the higher terrain across that zone.
“We are talking the difference of a single degree changing this entire forecast, and that is something almost impossible to predict”, the weather service said in its forecast discussion on Wednesday morning.
System number 2 begins impacting us on Thursday and looks to bring milder temperatures and heavier bursts of rain and even thunderstorms. The precipitation may end in some areas as freezing rain.
Some of those storms could be on the strong side – the Storm Prediction Center has most of west Alabama under a marginal risk of severe weather on Thursday as temperatures warm up ahead of the next system.
As this storm system pushes east of the area, colder air returns on Friday.
Light valley snow is possible through mid-day with several inches over mountain passes. We’re expecting for Friday’s winter weather to significantly impact driving and any outdoor activities you have planned.
More snow is also possible later in the week.
Saunders said state officials are expecting the best chance of snow to happen on Wednesday after 1 p.m., accumulating up to 1 inch.
