Trump And Cruz Dominate, Clinton And Sanders Expected To Clash
As the Democratic presidential-nomination race closes in on the Iowa caucuses, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is beginning to feel like its hare, rather than its tortoise, and both she and her husband are ruing their decision not to attack her strongest rival, Sen.
Sanders will be featured in next month’s issue of Ebony magazine and on Sunday in a debate in SC sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus Institute, he will have a chance to connect with black voters and post up against the former secretary of state on issues like criminal justice reform, education, and the economy.
But Clinton’s problems are broader than just her message: Opinion polls show that some Democrats and other voters continue to question her trustworthiness and whether she cares about their problems.
Sanders, who was behind by as many as 30 percentage points in the summer, now enjoys a comfortable lead in New Hampshire, with a 50-37 point margin, according to a Fox News poll released last week.
John Podesta, Clinton’s top campaign aide, tweeted Saturday that the campaign “welcomes Senator Sanders’ debate-eve conversion, reversing his vote to immunize gun manufacturers”.
The NBC News-YouTube debate comes after a week of good polling news for Sanders.
“Bernie Sanders took the wrong position when it mattered most, and he should admit that his vote was a mistake”, Fallon said, noting that the National Rifle Association said at the time that the bill was passed that it was the most significant piece of pro-run legislation in 20 years.
Sanders’ central campaign theme is inequality.
Stops for the Sanders HBCU tour include Alabama State University, Tennessee State University, Jackson State University in Mississippi, Florida A&M University, and the Virginia State University. Clinton has called for Sanders to be more specific about his proposals and how he would pay for proposals such as a single-payer health care system. The ads will demand Sanders release a clean bill of health before the Iowa caucuses, which will be held next month. “He does have a running commentary”, she said.
In the middle of this controversy it appears that the Clinton campaign is trying to turn things around and “muddy the waters” by accusing the Sanders campaign of being the ones who are “going negative”. “I’d be digging my fingernails into my palm to keep myself awake”, she admits.
On the other hand, we might be entering a new era when people are “fed up”, are paying more attention, studying the issues and seeing through the old-style manipulations that have defined our country’s political process for so long. Trump is doing it for him and the media is carrying the ball. Sanders couldn’t believe it. He said he was “shocked”.
“In the debates, she has shined, and while conventional wisdom says they offer no upside to a front-runner, she would benefit from more”, said Carter Eskew, a Democratic strategist who was a senior adviser to Al Gore’s presidential campaign in 2000. The Clinton campaign is complaining that it is out-of-bounds to say Clinton has received millions of dollars in “speaking fees” from the companies she will be responsible for regulating if she becomes President.
The editorial made no effort to hide the fact that Sanders’s path to the White House is a dubious and fraught one.
On Wednesday, she rushed to the defense of her daughter, Chelsea, who attempted to slap Sanders down on health care. He said, “We see the jobs grow but the incomes don’t”.
