Jeb Bush Sides With Trump in Debate Over ‘New York Values’
Still, Trump’s official Twitter feed blasted Cruz throughout Saturday, as he sought to capitalize on a pair of New York Times reports detailing Cruz’s failure to explain fully two loans from Citibank and Goldman Sachs that he now says he used to help finance his 2012 Senate campaign.
Given quotes like the above one from Trump – and the Cruz campaign’s intense focus on this construct – it seems we’ll find out February 1.
The Trump team’s attack comes as hostility between its camp and the Cruz campaign is at an all-time high.
Cruz questioned whether Trump is a true conservative, noting donations he’s made to Democrats over the years, including $50,000 in 2010 to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the former chief of staff to President Barack Obama.
“You know cities are cities, but they’re basically people, their brick and mortar and they’re people and he spoke very disparagingly about the people of New York”, Trump told the crowd.
The question there is whether the term plagues Trump.
Peggie White, 63, from Columbia, and Carolyn Caughman, 65, from Elgin, both taking a break on a balcony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, said they like Trump because he’s not afraid to speak his mind on issues like excessive government, opposition to Syrian refugees, and a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States. “Show us proof”, yelled one Cruz supporter. “I told you so”, Trump tweeted, referring to a lawsuit filed by a Houston man challenging the eligibility of Cruz, who was born in Canada to an American mother, to be president. “You feel it”, he said of the campaign’s momentum.
“They run into the buildings, and they’re running up the stairs and they knew it could collapse, everyone knew it could collapse, and the buildings are coming down, first building, second building, and you have people running up the stairs”, Trump said.
‘Who could have done – very few people could have done what New Yorkers did under that unbelievable circumstance, ‘ Trump said.
“To be honest, I don’t know what Donald’s position is”, Cruz said.
Kim said that she’s offered to volunteer for the campaign, including opening a small office in her town – though she hasn’t heard back on her offer. “I think that’s a huge difference”.
Still, others aren’t quite sure. “Now I have to see what the deal is for the four people because somebody said they’re getting 7. I thought what he said was very, very sad”. “I might stay home”.
