Sen. Ted Cruz And Donald Trump Slam Each Other
Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz launched one of his toughest attacks yet against fellow contender Donald Trump in New Hampshire Monday night, accusing the billionaire real estate developer of being “nowhere to be found” during during the debate in Congress over whether to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants.
One of the supporters of Ted Cruz at a campaign rally, according to reports, said: “All he has to do is point out Trump’s liberal past, that he’s not a true conservative”.
“Those are you words, Jeff”, Cruz told his host, only adding that he “likes” and “respects” him.
“They run into the buildings, and they’re running up the stairs and they knew it could collapse, everyone knew it could collapse, and the buildings are coming down, first building, second building, and you have people running up the stairs”, Trump said. He’s got an edge that’s not good. “You cant be tea party and at the same time support the ethanol mandate because it’s good politics in Iowa and support the sugar subsidies because it’s good politics in Florida”.
“I think in terms of a commander in chief, we ought to have someone who isn’t springing out of bed to tweet in a frantic response to the latest polls”, he said.
Polls show Cruz and Trump locked in a tight race in Iowa, whose 1 February caucuses lead off the state-by-state presidential nominating contests.
Cruz offered an apology of sorts on Friday: “Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio have all demanded an apology, and I’m happy to apologize”. I cringe when people bring that up, because now we have Republicans and conservatives using 9/11 like liberals use 9/11!
‘He explained that his views were that he was very pro-choice, he supported partial-birth abortion, he was open to gay marriage and his explanation for all of that, was I’m a New Yorker, ‘ Cruz pointed out to Wallace.
Campaigning Saturday afternoon in South Carolina, Cruz did not hold back when it came to his “friend” Donald Trump.
Cruz’s criticism of NY, he said, was a “total disgrace”. Cruz’s wife works for Goldman Sachs and secured a loan for as much as $500,000, secured by a brokerage account.
Trump has made Cruz’s birthplace an issue throughout the campaign as he was born in Calgary. “I mean, they loaned him a million dollars, so they certainly have control over him”, Trump said on CNN’s “State of the Union”. But with his poll numbers rising in New Hampshire, Cruz is banking on the bus tour to give him a boost. “I’d do the public a big favor”, Trump responded, but he would not say whether he’d actually file such a suit.
“The attack on Cruz in many ways is an attack on us”, he said toward the end of his monologue.
Cruz said he is “all in” in each of the states that vote in February: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada.
