Oculus Rift preorders crash site
Oculus VR, the company behind the new virtual reality gaming headset Oculus Rift, has officially started taking preorders, promising to give users a glimpse into the future. We were too conservative indeed in predicting the Rift’s price, and as for consumers, a good number of them were ready to throw Luckey to the wolves when he announced the Rift’s premium price tag. The likes of Russian Federation and South Korea are also still waiting on news as to when the Oculus Rift will hit their countries.
Earlier today, Oculus, developer of the headset, has made the Oculus Rift VR headset available for pre-order, and has also revealed more information on the headset’s release.
Oculus put its futuristic virtual reality headset Rift on sale on Wednesday, but would-be customers were confronted with an age-old digital dilemma: A website crash.
“I think our grandchildren are going to look and say, ‘Wow, can you believe that in the 2000s the only way to record a sports game or a family event was to take those still shots through a tiny window?'” Luckey said a year ago. Oculus chief executive Brendan Iribe said in May that the Rift and the computer needed to run it were expected to cost around $1,500. That’s in addition to costs associated with a PC that can keep pace with the Oculus Rift’s demands on hardware.
“Over 20 Oculus Studios titles, many more 3rd party titles”. Fair enough, Palmer, but $599 is still over 40 percent more than $350, isn’t it?
The Oculus Touch controller has been delayed until the second half of 2016. Luckey has said that VR will have a revolutionary impact on the way we communicate and consume entertainment.
