Henley said Frey was like a brother to him and the bond they forged 45 years ago was never broken, even during the time the Eagles were dissolved. The two had clashed often, most memorably during a 1980 concert that led to the Eagles’ initial breakup, but Felder said he remembered Frey most for the music they made together and for the “laughter and the parties”.
Country musicians of all stripes, from Vince Gill to Travis Tritt and more, have come out in expressing their admiration for the Eagles versatile musician and co-founder Glenn Frey, who passed away yesterday at age 67.
“Most people put them in a rock field because they were the leaders of the country’s rock movement, but the biggest impact the Eagles had with Glenn Frey are on today’s country music”, Pringle said.

It had four consecutive No. 1 albums, five No. 1 singles and its Greatest Hits 1971-1975 album alone sold upwards of 26 million copies. They were joined on stage by guitarist Joe Walsh, who replaced Leadon in the mid-1970s, and bassist Timothy B. Schmit, who stepped in after Meisner quit in 1977.
A 1990 Eagles reunion was delayed by surgery to remove part of his intestine; the band’s 1994 reunion tour was interrupted by Frey’s diverticulitis; and the band postponed receiving the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor last November after Frey’s intestinal problems required surgery. Following the signatures were the lyrics to “It’s Your World Now”, written by Frey and Jack Tempchin and was recorded to the Long Road Out of Eden album.
Yet before breaking up in a clash of egos, alcohol and drugfuelled rancour the Eagles crafted a string of beloved hits including Best Of My Love, One Of These Nights, Lyin’ Eyes, Take It To The Limit, New Kid In Town, Heartache Tonight and the classic Hotel California.
An underestimated reason for the success of The Eagles, perhaps, was their perfectionism, especially Frey’s.
With the country-tinged soft rock giants the Eagles, and as a solo artist, Frey released 24 American top 40 singles. He was the spark plug, the man with the plan, ‘ Henley wrote in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Call it being in the right time at the right place; Pringle said the Eagles hit the rock scene at a time when music was incredibly important, not just popular. He was amusing, bullheaded, mercurial, generous, deeply talented and driven. “We brought our two-year History of the Eagles Tour to a triumphant close at the end of July and now he is gone”.
