Star Wars: Colin Trevorrow and JJ Abrams on Rey Theories
The Academy Award nominations will be announced Thursday morning, and many are wondering if the box office success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will translate into Oscar gold.
ET also asked Trevorrow if he was aware of the Change.org petition to have him replaced as director of Episode IX with Star Wars creator George Lucas. Those kinds of stories are frankly infinitely more impactful and gratifying than all the numbers. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a very visual effects based film, and this new video shows a comparison between what was filmed and what made it to the screen.
Whoever Rey actually is, Trevorrow does hint that her father, at least is someone viewers have met. “What’s interesting is I’m not creating a host of new characters”, he said. The trailer also teases a climactic showdown between Ahsoka and Darth Vader, her one time master. “She deserves it. We’ll make sure that that answer is something that feels like it was something that happened a long time ago, far away, and we’re just telling you what happened”.
When fans walked out of theaters after seeing “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” many started to speculate who Rey could be and who her parents are. The bad news is that the scene in which she showed off her very particular set of skills was left on the cutting room floor.
“They are icons, but they’re also people that have suffered tremendous loss and challenge over the course of all these films”, he told us.
If you’re bummed about the prospect of waiting until 2019 for answers, know that it’s still possible that the big reveal will come in Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII.
“The fact that she was the ultimate heroine of the film was one of the significant plot points we did want to protect”, Southern said in an interview.
So what do you guys think of Trevorrow directing the upcoming Star Wars film?
“Force Awakens” star John Boyega recently opened up about “Episode VIII”, describing the next film in the franchise as “much darker” than “Episode VII”, calling his role as Finn “more physical” in the sequel.
