Ex-boyfriend kills 2 SUNY Geneseo students, then himself
He then reportedly phoned his father and confessed to the murders and threatened his own life moments before he stabbed himself, Geneseo Police Officer Jeffrey Szczesniak told reporters.
Kingston was believed to have stabbed Annese and Hutchinson to death with a large knife before killing himself with the same weapon. Kingston’s father called police. Police say it is possible Hutchinson and Annese had been asleep at the time, but Officer Jeff Szczesniak says that is just speculation. “There’s no indication that there was an actual struggle that took place”. He added that Kingston had recently made suicidal comments, and that he had no criminal history.
Police said no firearm was used, but a knife was recovered. “We certainly don’t know what his intentions were when he entered that room”, he said.
According to Szczesniak, friends last saw Kingston at a local bar around 8 or 9 p.m. on Saturday.
“That’s something we would get from the final medical examiners office (report) upon final determination for a… cause of death”, he said.
“We are confident that the perpetrator in this situation was Mr. Kingston and that there were no co-conspirators or anybody else that we’re looking for so therefore there would be no charges”.
“I can say that Matt was really in the upper echelon of our department”, Chanler said. “But again, law enforcement is still looking at everything that happened, what led up to this”.
“Very shocking. It’s not normal for a small town like this”, Johnson said.

“This is a sad day for the entire SUNY family, as the details of an unspeakable tragedy affecting the SUNY Geneseo campus community come to light”. The college postponed the men’s and women’s basketball games scheduled for Tuesday and was making counselors available to students and faculty.
Also living in the home were members of the SUNY Geneseo women’s basketball team. He had volunteered for more than three years at the Geneseo Fire Department, making a point to take every training opportunity despite his packed schedule as a student athlete, said fire chief Andrew Chanler. He also volunteered his time at the Geneseo volunteer fire department. “It’s been particularly hard for those that brought Matt along and trained him”.
Her coach, Scott Hemer, said the senior education major was selfless, and “a grinder” with a work ethic respected by her coaches and teammates.
“Many of our students were looking forward to coming back and starting a new semester, and then to be hit with this, so given this, it’s quite sobering, and shocking”, said Robert Bonfiglio, vice president for student and campus life at SUNY Geneseo.
There will be a remembrance service Wednesday evening at SUNY Geneseo.
Police believe Colin Kingston is responsible. “I think they’re as much in disbelief as we are”.
