Flint mayor won’t call for Snyder to step down
Snyder, who has faced questions about how quickly he acted after learning about the water contamination, released 274 pages of Flint-related emails from 2014 and 2015 on Wednesday, ranging from press releases to staff memos and planning notes.
Wading into a debate that has seen local authorities accused of putting lives at risk by cutting corners and trying to save money, Obama said, “You can’t short-change basic services that we provide to our people”.
In April, 2014, an emergency manager the governor assigned to Flint to get control of the city’s tangled finances sought to save money by switching its water supply from Detroit’s regional water system to the polluted Flint River.
On Saturday, President Barack Obama signed an emergency declaration but denied Snyder’s request for a disaster declaration based on the legal requirement that such relief is intended for natural events, fires, floods or explosions. “We have an infrastructure crisis, but we have a public health crisis in the city of Flint right now”, Weaver said. The tainted water supply will cost the state and federal government for years.
Flint pastors later told The Flint Journal-MLive that they accepted the filters on the condition that they not discuss the state’s role in securing the equipment, which was created to remove both total trihalomethanes (TTHM) and lead from water.
“I am sorry and I will fix it”. “It is completely unacceptable that respected scientific experts and our trusted local physicians have verified that the City of Flint’s drinking water is unsafe for our citizens, especially our most vulnerable young people”, Ananich wrote.
Snyder urged his staffers to check on the status of children with higher levels of lead after a woman claimed “claimed that two Flint children were in critical condition over lead”.
Churches across the state of MI are traveling to Flint to help the city’s some 100,000 residents deal with a severe water crisis. Even after those problems were resolved, many residents said the water was bad.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) wants Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder’s (R) resignation.
“That pH is reached by buffering in the water in such a way that the water is always depositing in a slight film, or doing nothing for the pipe rather than etching the metal off the pipe”, Snyder said. The move was meant to be a stop-gap measure until a pipeline to Lake Huron was completed for Flint’s municipal water. The water damaged Flint’s pipes, which ultimately drew in lead.
Protestors rally outside of the state Capitol during Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder’s State of the State address on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, in Lansing, Mich. With the water crisis gripping Flint threatening to overshadow almost everything else he has accomplished, the Republican governor again pledged a fix Tuesday night during his annual State of the State speech.
“The water certainly has occasional less than savory aspects like color because of the apparently more corrosive aspects of the hard water coming from the river, but that has died down with the additional main filters”.
PELLEY: So fair to say you don’t know what the lead content is in the water?
The episode is under investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Justice Department at the federal level, and by the state’s attorney general, Bill Schuette, who is widely expected to run for governor in 2018.
“It’s not ‘nothing, ‘ ” the memo said, adding that the water was not an imminent “threat to public health”. “It doesn’t include unborn children whose mothers drank tainted water during their pregnancies, or children and pregnant women who reside outside Flint but were exposed while visiting relatives, childcare centers or hospitals inside city limits”.
A message from the Flint Water Advisory Task Force to Snyder on December 29 ascribed much of blame to the DEQ for the contaminated water.
