Snyder Creates Panel To Focus On Flint Water For Long Term
Michigan State Police and other state employees will go door-to-door in Flint beginning tomorrow to hand out bottled water.
Snyder also forced the former head of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Dan Wyant, out of office that day, as the Republican admitted it was because the DEQ botched the testing of Flint’s water that the children of Flint have been poisoned by lead in the water.
“It begs the question that is this something that’s not getting any kind of attention because, perhaps, these are mostly minority people”. Lead can cause irreversible brain and developmental damage in children and infants who ingest it through water or lead-based paint.
Filmmaker Michael Moore has even gone so far to accuse Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder of “poisoning” the people of Flint.
The problem with Flint’s water began in April 2014, when the city stopped receiving Detroit’s water supply and instead began using the water from the Flint River, which has a high salt content. The corrosive salt ultimately corroded the lead in the pipes and caused the water to be contaminated. “However, now that the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Justice are in the initial stages of a serious investigation, Snyder is acting as his previous corporate tyranny agenda is some kind of ‘an innocent accident’ threatening the lives of MI residents; now and in the future”.
Snyder wouldn’t specify how much money he might need during a visit to Flint. But not until the fall of 2015, when the water was found to have elevated levels of lead that were reflected in children’s blood, did state officials swing into action.
Following revelations that Governor Rick Snyder’s administration knew about severe water quality problems in Flint, Michigan and assured residents there that the water was safe, concerned activists and residents convened today for a rally in front of Flint City Hall to demand that the federal government step in and arrest Governor Snyder. Per Edwards, Flint city officials broke federal laws by failing to collect water samples from homes that were at the highest risk of lead contaminiation and failed to conduct followup tests as required on homes whose samples showed high levels. More than 80 percent of Flint’s students qualify for free or reduced-lunch prices, an indicator of poverty in K-12 education. “We had to come up here and do what we could to help”, Amru Meah says.
“I really don’t think people are getting the benefit of the doubt”, wrote Muchmore.
“We wanted in”, said Gladyes Williamson, 61, of Flint.
The city of Flint, Michigan, is living through a nightmare.
Just a few weeks later, in October, the city reverted to using Detroit’s Lake Huron water supply, but the damage was done to the lead pipes.
Snyder declared a state of emergency in Flint on January 5, which “triggered activation of the state’s emergency response center”.
In October, Flint was finally able to return back to Lake Huron water, but only after repeated denials by state and health officials throughout the past two years that the Flint water was unsafe.
But the city assured them that everything was fine, and that the bad smell and taste didn’t necessarily indicate other problems.
