More than 100 games coming to Oculus Rift this year, says Luckey
Oculus Rift Headset’s price has been confirmed and the pre orders are now open. This barely scrapes the promised Q1 2016 release which is also pretty close to the expected release of the consumer version of the HTC Vive in April. This will come with the previously announced pre-order freebies, which is a free copy of “Eve: Valkyrie” by CCP Games and “Lucky’s Tale” by Playful. Also, take a look around the internet and you’ll find reports that companies like Dell will be offering bundles that include the Rift and a PC.
As well as the headset, users will get an Oculus Remote, an Xbox controller for games, and two free titles. “Future advancements and high volume will make VR available to everyone eventually, but 1st gen will be mostly early adopters”.
Tomorrow marks the beginning of pre-orders for the Oculus Rift, the first virtual reality headset to become widely available (though “widely” is largely dependent on the as-yet-unknown cost).
The Oculus Rift is a head-mounted virtual reality display that allows users to experience virtual reality through programs and games developed for the Rift.
Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey created the virtual reality tech company in 2012, and established its base in Irvine.
Even so, it’s clear that the Oculus Rift is only for the determined VR enthusiast with powerful hardware and a few disposable dollars hiding under the lounge seat cushion. Oculus has set up a certification program so consumers can look for a sticker on PCs that support the Rift.
