Mulder and Scully land on RTÉ2 this month

Duchovny, who played Mulder to Anderson’s agent Dana Scully in the 1993-2002 drama, said that perspective was key to revisiting it. Over the course of that many episodes, though, occasional duds weren’t such a big deal, and even as the show’s long-term narrative, about the vast government conspiracy to cover up the presence of aliens on Earth, became unwieldy and tedious, the standalone episodes were frequently brilliant. Like all of us, he’s got to be discerning, and I think that is something you see in the first episode, and certainly through the series. Over a decade has passed and our two favorite Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have gone their separate ways.

Other returning characters include Mulder and Scully’s old boss Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and the nefarious Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis). Though “The X-Files” made global stars of Duchovny and Anderson, both actors admit that the roles felt like a burden at times.

Admittedly, my attraction to the show is not because of the mythology that is at its core but instead it’s the one-off episodes that I enjoy the most. This was the first episode in which the writers flipped the dynamic between Scully and Mulder, making him the skeptic and her the believer.

And David revealed in a new interview that he will be delighting fans by shedding his clothes in a new episode of the series. So I think that they didn’t see that as the next X-FILES.

THE X-FILES is returning for a six-episode run on Fox, beginning Sunday, January 24 after the football game, then settling into its regular timeslot on Monday, January 25.

Over these past many years, there was always speculation that this show might return one day.

We’ll more than take those six episodes and run with them than have absolutely nothing at all, but if they want to do more, then go for it!
