Blackhawks trade Ryan Garbutt to Anaheim for Jiri Sekac
The Ducks made their second trade in the span of six days, acquiring winger Ryan Garbutt on Thursday from the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Jiri Sekac. Sekac is a 23 year old Right wing from the Czech republic.
Sekac split the 2014-15 campaign with the Ducks and Montreal Canadiens, collecting 14 assists, 23 points and 22 penalty minutes in 69 regular-season contests; he also appeared in seven 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs games with Anaheim.
Garbutt has two goals and four assists in 43 games in 2015-16 with the Blackhawks. Murray sent Carl Hagelin to Pittsburgh last week for veteran David Perron, who has a goal and an assist in his first two games with Ducks. With the deal sending Garbutt west, the Blackhawks and GM Stan Bowman have now given up on both players acquired in the offseason trade that sent Patrick Sharp to the Dallas Stars. The forward has a $900,000 cap hit through the 2016-17 season because the Stars retained 50 percent of his salary. So If Sekac does not work out with the Blackhawks this season, the Blackhawks can walk away with no salary cap obligations next season. Trevor Daley also came to the Blackhawks in the deal but he was traded earlier this year to the Penguins. And if there is any team that can get something out of a talented, yet unproven player like Sekac, the Blackhawks just might be the ones to do it. Both had little to no success with the Blackhawks this season.
What do you think of the deal??
