How to request your Surface Pro power cord replacement from Microsoft
“We will be releasing details of how customers can obtain a free replacement cable shortly”.
Microsoft has setup a dedicated website you can use to see if you qualify for a free exchange and to initiate the process.
Earlier this week, it emerged that Microsoft was planning to announce a global recall of AC power cords sold with some of its Surface Pro tablets. This recall doesn’t apply to the Surface RT, the Surface Book, the Surface Pro 4 or any Surfaces sold after July of previous year.
Microsoft has just confirmed that the recall we told you about yesterday is indeed true, as it discovered that the power cord of some Surface Pro devices could pose a fire hazard due to physical damage. “The safety of our customers is our top priority”.
According to the company, the replacement will affect the AC power cord which connects to the power outlet, rather than the cord which connects directly to the Surface Pro. Now, a recall site has been launched, giving information on how to check if you are affected and eligible for a new power cord to avoid any future problems.
In order to prevent damage to your brand new power cord when it arrives, Microsoft also suggests that you follow these guidelines on properly caring for your Surface Pro power cord and power brick.
For those who don’t remember when they bought their Surface Pro, there are a couple of easy ways to spot if your cord is one of the ones affected by the recall.
