Obama: He’ll be too emotional to speak at Malia’s graduation
Malia Obama, President Obama’s 17-year-old daughter, is set to graduate from high school this spring.
Malia is a senior at the private Sidwell Friends School in Washington.
The President said he had turned down an invitation to be the school’s commencement speaker for fear he’d be too overcome with emotion to deliver a speech in its entirety. “I’m going to be wearing dark glasses… and I’m going to cry”, he revealed per ABC News. She has not yet announced where she is attending college. He told her that there are a lot of good colleges and universities and not necessarily that just because a particular college is not some name-brand, famous, fancy school doesn’t mean that will not be giving a great education. Last year, she toured a number of colleges including Stanford, Columbia, Yale and Princeton.
“[But that’s] assuming that Malia will listen to my advice”, he added. “You want to let them get a feel – what’s the vibe on campus – without being followed by a whole swarm of people”.
Unfortunately for Malia Obama and her classmates, President Obama says he won’t do it.
But come the fall, the Father-in-Chief may need some advice himself.
