Bernie Sanders is walloping Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is enjoying his biggest lead yet over Hillary Clinton, in a new poll of likely primary voters in New Hampshire. In December, Clinton led Sanders in the Hawkeye State by 18 points in CNN/ORC’s polling, 54% to 36%.
But the Vermont senator’s support rests heavily on groups whose participation in New Hampshire primaries is less reliable – notably younger voters and those who aren’t registered Democrats. “That is like asking the arsonist to be the firefighter”, Clinton said.
Clinton made the remarks at an event in Burlington, Iowa, days before the caucuses approach in the state and polls showing the race tightening up between her and Sanders there.
It was a consistent message for the candidate, who attacked Sanders in a speech earlier Thursday and released a video through her campaign that afternoon criticizing his proposal.
For 32 years, there has been a Democratic debate after the Iowa caucuses, this year set for February 1, and before the New Hampshire primary, the letter says. Just 7 percent said they have an unfavorable opinion of the senator.
Sanders leads Clinton 60% to 33% in a recent poll from WMUR/CNN of Granite State voters.
The shift is, in part, due to waning of interest in the issue of national security among Democratic primary voters.
“Sanders is aided by the fact that most Super Tuesday contests are open to independent voters – a group where he performs well”, Murray said in the Monmouth report.
A new CNN/WMUR poll finds Bernie Sanders leading Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire-this time by more than ever before.
She’s latched herself to Obama’s legacy and cast Sanders’ policy proposals – particularly a government-run Medicare-for-all plan accompanied by increases in individual income taxes and corporate taxes – as impossible to enact in the current political climate. Sanders polls higher among women and Millennials, who were previously thought a solid voting block for Clinton. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.
