Oklahoma City cop convicted of rape faces sentencing; jury wants 263 years
An Oklahoma judge has sentenced Daniel Holtzclaw, the former Oklahoma police officer who was convicted of raping multiple Black women, to 263 consecutive years in prison.
The 17-year-old victim testified that Holtzclaw pulled up next to her as she walked home, then told her he had to search her before raping her on the porch. That verdict included four counts of first-degree rape and forcible oral sodomy, second-degree rape, sexual battery, and procuring lewd exhibition.
In December, Holtzclaw was convicted on 18 of 36 total counts related to his history of abuse.
Ex-Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Holtzclaw, 29, has been sentenced to 263 years in prison, the full amount recommended by a jury. A request for a new trial made by Holtzclaw’s attorneys on Wednesday was denied.
While the shocking details of Holtzclaw’s case has captured some national attention, a searing Associated Press investigation found that 550 police officers lost their certification from 2009 to 2014 for sexual assault, rape, groping, and forced sexual favors to avoid arrest. We need to find out, how could this happen so many time and nobody see what was going on?
Prosecutors said Holtzclaw, who is half-white and half-Japanese, targeted black women while on patrol.

Holtzclaw’s attacks ended after he sexually assaulted Jannie Ligons, a 57-year-old grandmother, during a traffic stop on 18 June 2014. “There will never be a day where I don’t think of how I was violated”, Ellis said.
“This is a rapist who masqueraded as a law-enforcement officer”.
“Black women are particularly vulnerable to sexual assault by police due to historically entrenched presumptions of promiscuity and sexual availability”, the AAPF wrote in its 2015 report “Say Her Name”. One lawsuit claims that police were investigating Mr Holtzclaw as early as 8 May a year ago, six weeks before he assaulted his final victim, and allowed him to remain on duty during these investigations.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the hearing this morning was delayed as Holtzclaw’s lawyers met with the judge regarding a request for a new trial.
The post alleges that there was DNA evidence from several of the victims found in Holtzclaw’s vehicle and on his trousers. The former officer was characterized in court records as “Asian or Pacific Islander”, the Oklahoman reported.
