Kobe top vote-getter; Leonard, Lowry NBA All-Star starters
Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry has been voted in as a starter for the NBA All-Star Game in Toronto on February 14.
In a last-second shocker, the Spurs’ star came from behind to beat out Draymond Green and Blake Griffin for the final West starting spot. Kobe led all players in votes despite having a sub-par year on one of the worst teams in the National Basketball Association.
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is one of those players that wasn’t voted in as a starter and many see him as the biggest snub on the season. Stunningly, Dallas’ Zaza Pachulia, thanks to a even stronger late push from his worldwide fanbase, was the next man in line behind Leonard.
Babers-Green later reiterated her feelings on the matter.
Stephen Curry will represent the Golden State Warriors in the All-Star Game once again.
Barkley had no qualms with Leonard earning a spot but said Green should have earned the nod over the Thunder’s Durant. Later she added, “Like I said…A POPULARITY CONTEST!” The reserves will be announced January 28.
Kobe Bryant, who is retiring after this season, was the leading vote-getter among not only forwards but also among all players. Bryant received 1,891,614 votes while Curry earned 1,604,325.
Curry will start alongside Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook, who was a distant second in the West backcourt with 772,009.
The front court consists of Cleveland’s LeBron James, New York’s Carmelo Anthony, and Paul George of Indiana.
