Henry Nicholls helps Sydney Thunder into Big Bash League final
The left-handed batsman of the Australian Cricket Team Usman Khawaja kept his incredible form going as he scored a century against Adelaide Strikers in the semifinals of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2015-2016 to send Sydney Thunder into the final.
First up we’ve got Adelaide Strikers hosting Sydney Thunder in front of a sell-out Adelaide Oval.
The victor of the Stars’ clash with the Scorchers, who are seeking a third crown in a row, will host the final as they finished higher on the ladder than the fourth-placed Thunder.
The opener was key to an impressive chase of 160 – enabling the Thunder to reach their target with 14 balls to spare – as he carried his bat, Henry Nicholls adding an unbeaten 35 to help secure the win.
Khawaja then blazed a half-century from just 24 deliveries – from his first 21 balls, he smacked nine fours and six.
Nicholls was summoned to stand in for Kallis after impressing Hussey and Shane Watson when Canterbury played the Thunder in an exhibition game at Hagley Oval last month.
Nicholls, who made his Black Caps debut on Boxing Day against Sri Lanka, looked composed at the crease and kept the strike ticking over as Khawaja (104 from 59 balls) did the damage at the other end.
The two-time defending champions Scorchers have played in all previous BBL finals, losing the first two to the Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat before defeating the Hobart Hurricanes and Sixers in the last two.
“And he played some wonderful knocks in tough situations and that is the mark of a player – you can find a way to score runs or take wickets and have an impact, find a way to be a match victor”.
